I FOUND A SLUB OR SPLICE. WHAT IS THAT?

Our Mill is pretty small, and the process is very hands on. No skein is perfect, as it is with all handmade items, although they are made with great care. We aim to bring you only the highest quality of product, but idiosyncrasies can happen on occasion. A slub can often be teased out gently. Splices happen when there is a need to join yarn ends to retain the yardage of the product. Compressed air is used to ensure that the splice is strong, and it will not effect the look or quality of your project.

IS THERE ANYTHING I SHOULD KNOW ABOUT HAND DYED YARNS?

Hand dyed yarn can vary from batch to batch, skein to skein, or even within the same skein. For any project you are doing we recommend that you alternate skeins for the best result. We do our best to match skeins when filling orders, but variances happen regardless of our efforts.

HOW DO I CARE FOR A PROJECT?

We recommend steam blocking for colours that are of high contrast in a project. Some dye colours are noticeably difficult to set or exhaust. Although we do wash each skein after it’s been processed, we recommend, if you are using a very saturated colour way with a lighter skein, that you test your darker skein for possible colour transfer. Do this by soaking them in cold water with a no rinse wool wash.

Washing Instructions

Do to the properties of wool, items do not need to be washed as often as other clothing. When washing soak in cold water with a detergent made for washing wool, or no rinse wool wash. Do not agitate the item of clothing during washing, do not wring the item, but gently squeeze out any water and then roll in a clean towel to remove excess moisture. Lay flat to dry on a dry towel or on a blocking mat.
