Memories Through the Decades- 1950’s

Powdery pastels became fashionable in the 1950’s with softer hues conveying youth, warmth and joy.  Women wore flowing skirts, tight bodices with a cinched in waistline, bullet bras, exaggerated hips, kitten heels and elegant matching accessories.  For fun they also included in their wardrobe poodle skirts, white bobby socks with saddle shoes. Men’s fashion also had an increase in colour with pastels in skirts with ties in strips or geometric shapes.  Many still wore a fedora with a tailored suit and wingtip oxfords,  but for casual wear they sported the popular  colourful knitted vests and penny loafers.
